Fitness Center Expectations

Wake Forest University wants users of campus fitness and recreation facilities, equipment and services to have an enjoyable and safe experience. You are asked to be courteous to others using the facilities and equipment and to adhere to the following policies.

  • Wake Forest University is not responsible for any loss, damage, accident, illness, or injury to person or property arising out of or relating to participation or use of campus fitness and recreation facilities, equipment and activities. Users assume all risks and responsibilities surrounding use and participation and agree to adhere to all rules and regulations as set forth.
  • Please adhere to any requests and directives by Campus Recreation facilities and fitness staff.
  • Weight & fitness areas may be unsupervised and have no attendant on duty at times.
  • Any maintenance issues or other concerns, including those regarding other users, should be brought to the attention of Campus Recreation facilities and fitness staff.
  • Persons under the age of 16 years of age are not permitted in the Weight & Fitness areas. Persons 16-17 years of age must be an accompanied guest of a Wake Forest Campus Recreation member.
  • Members must wear a shirt at all times inside the facility (a shirt that covers a participant’s full back and front, but may be sleeveless).
  • Shirts covering the sides, torso, and midriff must be worn in the Weight & Fitness areas.
  • Closed toe, non-marking athletic shoes must be worn in the Weight & Fitness areas at all times.
  • Clothing with metal buttons, zippers, or other hardware like jean rivets are not permitted on any fitness equipment as they could potentially damage equipment and upholstery.
  • Personal items, including any type of bags, jackets, helmets and purses are not allowed in the Weight & Fitness areas. Complimentary day use lockers are located in the locker rooms. Cubbies are also available throughout the facility.
  • Protect your property. Campus Recreation is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.
  • Food and gum are not permitted in Weight &Fitness areas. Drinks are permissible in resealable, spill proof containers.
  • Please be respectful and courteous to others. Inappropriate language or behavior will not be tolerated.

 

CARDIO AREAS (A204 & A403)

  • Please limit your time on the cardiovascular machines to 30 minutes during peak hours  (Monday – Friday; 3:00PM – 7:00PM).
  • Please wipe down equipment after each use. Please do not spray solution directly on the LCD monitors.
  • Members are required to use equipment for its intended purposes and maintain safety at all times.
  • Members are responsible for cleaning up any excess sweat on or around equipment. Failure to abide by this guideline may result in suspension of facility privileges.

 

STRENGTH AREAS (A188 & A221)

  • During peak hours (Monday – Friday; 3:00PM – 7:00PM), please be courteous and allow others to work in between sets.
  • Dropping dumbbells and barbells is prohibited.
  • Free weights, such as dumbbells and weight plates, must remain on the Mondo rubber flooring and should not be used on the tile flooring.
  • Re-rack weights and return to proper place after use.
  • Use of a spotter, safety collars, spotter arms and J-hooks are strongly recommended. Return all safety arms back to racks if removed during exercise.
  • Use of chalk is prohibited.
  • Use of benches for step-ups is prohibited.
  • Please be aware of your surroundings when doing Olympic lifts.
  • Only Wake Forest University personal trainers are allowed to train clients in Reynolds Gymnasium and Sutton Center. Failure to abide by this guideline may result in suspension of facility privileges.

 

FUNCTIONAL TRAINING CENTER (A309)

  • The Functional Training Center is prioritized for Personal Training and Small Group Training classes.
  • Free weights, such as dumbbells and weight plates, must remain in designated spaces.
  • Re-rack weights and return all equipment to its designated storage space after use.
  • Wipe down all equipment, benches and mats after use.
  • Use of a spotter, safety collars, spotter arms and J-hooks are strongly recommended. Return all safety arms back to racks if removed during exercise.
  • Use of chalk is prohibited.
  • Use of benches for step-ups is prohibited. Use wooden boxes provided.
  • Olympic lifts involving the dropping of weights are prohibited in the functional training area.
  • Tire flips and push/pull sleds must be used on the turf only.
  • TRX straps are for TRX bands only. Swinging and hanging from yellow TRX straps are prohibited.
  • Only Wake Forest University personal trainers are allowed to train clients in Reynolds Gymnasium and Sutton Center. Failure to abide by this guideline may result in suspension of facility privileges.
