We invite you to explore a variety of workshops presented by our highly trained and talented mind body staff this fall.  Whether you are interested in beginning activity, seek knowledge and introspect, or just eager to expand your physical practice of various mind body disciplines the workshops listed below will provide that and more.

The Meaning and Practice of Vinyasa

Have you every been to a “vinyasa Yoga” class or had a teacher instruct you to “move through your vinyasa?” The term vinyasa possesses a deeper story beyond a style of yoga class or a small collection of postures! In the Meaning and Practice of Vinyasa, learn about the history and various interpretations of vinyasa along with principles for engaging powerfully in a vinyasa Yoga practice!

Living Your Yoga

In this three part series we will look at using the practice of yoga for physical health, mental health, and emotional health. We will also discuss ways to take how you feel on your mat, ‘off your mat’ and use that sense of calm and peace in your daily lives.

When:  Session I: Begins Sept 18 *continuing for 2 additional weeks 9/25; 10/2

Practicing 8 Limbs of Yoga

Did you know MOST people who practice yoga are only practicing in one or two aspects of “true” yoga?  This 7-week series will dive into the many different branches of a well-rounded yoga practice.  Whether you have been practicing yoga for years or are just beginning, this course will help you gain a better understanding of what yoga truly is, and how to use these practices to develop a more peaceful life and deeper connection with yourself.  Each class will target one of the eight limbs, using discussion, movement, and specific techniques to create a mindful and purposeful life.

When:  Begins Thursday Sept 20 *continuing for 6 additional weeks 9/27; 10/4; 10/18; 10/25; 11/1; 11/8

Chaturanga:  Choice and Challenge

Chaturanga, the four limb staff pose is a demanding posture that builds whole-body strength and mental determination.  In Chaturanga:  Choice and Challenge, learn how to safely practice chaturanga, along with the many modifications and variations to successfully build up to chaturanga or add extra challenges.

Restorative Sound Journey through the Chakras

Alexander Tuttle, sound healer, will play live music during a restorative yoga class.  During this experience, Alexander will play Crystal bowls, Tibetan bowls, Native American flute, Tingshas, Didgeridoo, Sitar, chimes, bells, gong, drums, vocal toning, etc in a stimulating and supportive manner.  These sounds reverberate through your whole body as Sue leads your restorative yoga practice.  The restorative yoga poses; fully supported by props that allow the body to open; will be coordinated with the musical accompaniment to bring these energy centers which are each associated with a musical note or vibration frequency, into alignment, releasing stuck energy, restoring equilibrium and leaving you restored, balanced, relaxed and renewed.

Session II Friday, November 9th @ 3:00pm – 4:30pm

In All About Pranayama, learn a variety of pranayma techniques, how they affect the nervous system and their applications in yoga and meditation.

Pre-Modern Hatha Yoga…What We Discarded and What We Saved

The early twentieth century experienced a revolution in perspectives and practices of hatha yoga.  It is true that yoga is an ancient practice, but like all human phenomena, yoga has evolved.  What was it like before its recent modernization?  What documents and other evidence give us insight into the roots of the hatha yoga so popular today?  The findings may surprise you!

Power Poses for Confidence

In this two hour workshop, we will look at poses and postures in yoga that can not only build physical strength, but offer confidence and increase feeling of success for those times when you really need it! All levels are welcome

Do you have a burning question about yoga philosophy or lifestyle?  Is there a posture you would love to have broken down into step-by-step alignmnet cues?  We may have an answer…or something like an answer… or another question.  In this session, join a panel of WFU teachers as we put our heads and hearts together to offer you deeper insights into yoga practice and philosophy.  The information presented depends on what you want to know and will involve a mix of discussion and practice.
