Our Mission
In 2019, Outdoor Pursuits and the Office of Sustainability teamed up to bring the ReCycle Bike Share Program to the Wake Forest community. Our goal is to provide all WFU students, faculty, and staff access to a healthy, affordable, environmentally friendly, and efficient method of transportation: bikes!
Since then, Outdoor Pursuits has operated the bike share program which allows the WFU community to rent a bike for one year (or semester) at a time. Bike stations around campus provide users with resources to perform minor repairs and keep their bike tires inflated properly. And should any major repairs be needed, users can always bring their bikes to Outdoor Pursuits where our trained staff will fix their bike and even provide them with a loaner bike if necessary.
Due to limited supply, participants must apply to get a bike through the program at the start of the Fall semester. Those living off campus or demonstrating financial need will be prioritized.
Help us promote sustainable transportation at WFU – join ReCycle today!
The Bike Share Process:
- Applications for Fall 2024 are Closed.
- Applications will be reviewed by our team and we will notify you if you have received a bike by September 4th. Bike pick up will be September 5th & 6th
- Purchase a bike lock and helmet. All participants must bring a working bike lock and helmet to bike pick-up in order to receive their bike. The bike lock must be one of these approved locks or a U Lock.
- Bike pick-up will be in early to mid-September. We will email you to coordinate a time for you to pick up your bike when you are notified you have been accepted to the program.
- We will contact you at the end of the year/semester to let you know when to return the bike.
- Additional fees may be charged for lost, stolen, or damaged bikes as well as for any bikes returned late fees range from $575 – $50
Things You Should Know
Bring it by Outdoor Pursuits and we will do our best to help you. If you need a new bike part we may charge you for the part, although we will not charge you for the cost of labor to fix it so long as we are able to take care of it “in-house”. If your bike is beyond our scope of repair we will bring it to the local Ken’s Bike Shop, and you will be responsible for the cost of repair.
If your bike is lost or stolen, you should first report it to campus police. If it is not found your student account will be charged for a bike replacement.
You are responsible for your own bike lock and helmet. When you pick up your bike you must show that you have a bike lock. If you do not, you will not be given a bike.
