Whether you need help planning a trip or the gear to get you through it, OP is here to help students, faculty, and staff with all their outdoor needs.
Rental Center:
Get the quality, brand-name gear you need from our rental center. Our massive inventory of outdoor equipment ranges from backpacks, tents, and sleeping bags to whitewater kayaks, canoes and even crash pads. So whether you’re camping, climbing, or crushing whitewater waves, we’ve got you covered.
We’ll teach you to use all of our gear so that you can feel confident using it yourself. To rent gear, just come to our Rental Center located in Outdoor Pursuits, 1st Floor of the Wellbeing Center (near the pool).

Come by Outdoor Pursuits anytime we’re open and we’ll help you plan an adventure that suits your skills and comfort level. Whether you want information about local walking trails, the best whitewater rivers, or cool crags for climbing we’ll be there to tell you about our favorite spots.
We can also help if you’re interested in learning more about a given outdoor sport! We can provide sample packing lists, teach you how to fit a backpack or throw a bear hang, and guide you through what it’s like to plan a trip of your own. If you have questions about the outdoors, let us be your guide.

Monday/Friday: 12:00-6:00pm
Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday: 2:00-6:00pm
Summer & Intersessions
Monday’s 12pm-4pm and Friday’s 11am-3pm
Rental Policies
- OP rents equipment to anyone holding a current WFU faculty, staff, or student ID.
- The customer is responsible for late, lost, stolen, or damaged gear. All customers must sign a rental contract in the OP office prior to renting any gear from OP. Rental equipment is taken “AS IS”, it is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that the equipment is in proper working order prior to leaving.
- All customers must show a valid WFU ID to rent equipment from OP.
- Reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance of pick-up date.
- Please note that all reservations must be paid in full at the time of reservation.
Note: You WILL be charged for late, lost, stolen or damaged gear.
- FOR ALL BOAT RENTALS: Customers must contact the OP administrator no later than 48 hours prior to desired pick-up time for any boat rental. Customers may be asked to demonstrate their skill level in certain boats like whitewater kayaks. Customers must be able to transport all boats safely.
In the event that you must cancel your reservation, please note the following cancellation stipulations:
- Cancellations made the day before or day of scheduled pick-up will receive NO REFUND.
- Cancellations made any time three days or more from the scheduled pick-up will receive a FULL REFUND.
